Infant CPR Anytime™

Infant CPR Anytime™ is an “all-in-one” learning kit that teaches the basic lifesaving skills of infant CPR, relief of choking, and the chain of survival.

Infant CPR Anytime™ teaches new and existing parents CPR using research-proven “practice-while-watching” techniques. This allows the learner to watch an instructional DVD and practise their skills on a personal mannequin. The learning kit allows users to learn these life-saving skills anywhere, either in the comfort of their own home or in large group settings with the HSFC Instructor.


Infant CPR Anytime™ is designed to be shared with close family members and friends, because more lives can be saved. On completion of the course you take the kit home.

Family & Friends CPR Anytime™

Family & Friends CPR Anytime™ allows users to learn skills anywhere — from large-group settings with an HSFC Instructor, to the comfort of their own homes. This kit is designed to be shared among close family and friends. For every kit distributed, it is estimated that 2.5 additional people are trained. In fact, some CPR Anytime™ programs report that as many as 7-8 additional people per kit receive training.


CPR Anytime teaches CPR using research-proven “practise while watching” techniques, allowing viewers to practise lifesaving skills with a personal mannequin. The fully bilingual (English/French) kit helps extend lifesaving training to more people.

  • 2 hours approximately
Completion of the CPR Anytime™ kit does not result in receipt of a course completion card.

The CPR Anytime™ kit includes the following components:
  • Latest science
  • Mini Anne® CPR Learning Mannequin
  • CPR Skills Practice DVD (English - French)
  • Instructional booklet (English - French)
  • Mini Anne® Spare Lung
  • Manikin Wipes

On completion of the course you can take the kit home with you.

Heartsaver (HSaCPR) CPR AED Course

This Heartsaver Course is valid for 1 year and contains all the skills required at the CPR AED level. The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) recommends that participants renew their Heartsaver Certifications annually.


Target Audience
Anyone can take the Heartsaver course, which was designed for people who need a course completion card in a CPR AED class.

Course Content
The Heartsaver Course is taught at four levels. Topics covered are:
  • Adult CPR AED
  • Adult CPR AED, Child CPR AED
  • Adult CPR AED, Infant CPR
  • Adult CPR AED, Child CPR AED, Infant CPR
Note: All Heartsaver courses include the Relief of Choking training.

Course Duration

  • 3 hours approximately

Prerequisites
  • None required

Certifications Earned
  • Heartsaver CPR AED certification - valid for 1 year from date of completion

Completion Criteria
  • Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills and pass a knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 75%
  • 100% attendance and participation in the course

  • Comfortable clothing (CPR will involve physical activity)
  • Indoor footwear during inclement weather

Heart and Stroke = BLS-CPR (HCP)

This Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider program is valid for 1 year from issue and contains all the skills required at the BLS level.


Target Audience
The HSFC BLS-CPR (HCP) Course is designed to prepare health care professionals for performing CPR both inside and outside the hospital setting. Anyone who needs to know how to perform CPR in a health care setting can take this course. Rescuers who want to learn more about performing one- or two-rescuer CPR on adults, children, and infants can also take this course.

  • 1-rescuer adult, child and infant CPR
  • 2-rescuer adult, child and infant CPR
  • Adult, child and infant choking
  • Barrier device/pocket mask
  • Bag Valve Mask (BVM)
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Rescue breathing
  • Cardiac arrest

Duration

  • Approximately 4 hours

Prerequisites
  • None required

Course Description
The BLS-CPR course contains updated content and science from the 2015 Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiac Care. The skills taught are one- and two-rescuer adult, child, and infant CPR, along with adult, child, and infant choking, barrier device/pocket mask, Bag Valve Mask (BVM) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. A participant CD is included with the text and contains supplemental information on topics such as cardiac arrest and special resuscitation situations.

The course is designed for Alberta Health Services (AHS) health care providers such as emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, physicians, dentists, nurses and respiratory therapists who need a credentialed course. This course is also open to first responders who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.
Certifications Earned
  • Heart and Stroke BLS-CPR (HCP) - valid for 1 year from date of completion.

Heart and Stroke = “Renewal” BLS-CPR (HCP)

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Renewal course is a fast-paced course that allows the experienced BLS provider (those who are confident in their BLS skills through regular use in their work in the ED, CCU, ICU on code team, or paramedics and first responders) the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge through written and skills assessment in a concentrated program. Successful completion of this 2.5-hour course (approximate time) allows students to renew their BLS course completion card.
